Speaking at SMX Social Media

Dec 05 2011 Published by under analytics, speaking engagements

I’m going to be speaking on social analytics down in Scottsdale tomorrow at SMX Social Media. I’m psyched to be part of the first social-focused conference from the SMX folks, as their track record with SEM-focused conferences is pretty stellar. I’ll be covering how SwellPath approaches social analytics, at a relatively high-level, and talking about some tools and tactics that can be used to better gather and analyze social data. I’m looking forward to seeing those of you who are going to be down there. If you’re in the Phoenix area and in the digital marketing space, this is definitely an event you want to attend.

WordCamp Slides

Over the course of the last few months I’ve had the pleasure of attending and speaking at 4 separate WordCamps. I have met so many awesome people in the WordPress community and had so much fun at all these camps. Huge thanks to all the organizers of WordCamp Orange County, Columbus, Raleigh, and Montreal. You all are some of the most important people in the WordPress community; your efforts are awesome.

Here are the latest and greatest slides from my preso. It has evolved over the summer, but nothing has been taken out; only additions. I probably won’t give this presentation again, so consider this the final version.

Speaking at WebVisions 2011

May 11 2011 Published by under analytics, news, Portland, speaking engagements

WebVisions 2011`WebVisions (May 25th through May 27th) is a great event to attend if you don’t live in Portland. If you do live in Portland, it’s just gravy that the event happens here. This year’s lineup is stellar, and I’m incredibly psyched to be part of it. I’ll be speaking on Friday morning at 9:30. The session title and description is below. If you haven’t already, you should register for WebVisions. Hope to see you there.

Less is the New More

Data is everywhere – every application, every device, every network, every medium – they all provide us with abundant quantities of data. We cram it into aggregators, dashboards, warehouses, databases, and spreadsheets. Then we try analyze it all through algorithms, charts, tables, graphs, jargon, and infographics. We’re inundated and it’s hampering decision-making.

With a loose focus on digital measurement and analytics, this session will take a quick retrospective look at web analytics and digital marketing data. When did we reach the point of diminishing returns?

After that, we’ll look at where we go from here. How do we adjust our habits, shift our mentality, and distill data so we can be productive in this new reality? Learn how to get back to the point where action trumps analysis, by starting over and embracing the philosophy that less is the new more.

Speaking at WordCamp Raleigh 2011 & WordCamp Montreal 2011

Apr 24 2011 Published by under analytics, speaking engagements, WordPress

I just solidified plans to make it to WordCamp Raleigh and speak there, and WordCamp Montreal as well. Hope to see you at either event. Both have excellent organization and a great track record, so 2011 shouldn’t disappoint for both.

Speaking at WordCamp Columbus 2011

Apr 12 2011 Published by under analytics, speaking engagements, WordPress

I grew up in the midwest and I have a bunch of family in Ohio, which makes me even more excited to be speaking at WordCamp Columbus in June. As the second WordCamp engagement I have this year, I’m really psyched to evolve the Measure Twice, Blog Once presentation. I’ll be going at 3:15 on Saturday. Can’t wait to meet some Ohio WordPress folks! Here’s a link to the WordCamp Columbus 2011 site.
